Stone Fruit

grok
I just had a nectarine - a soft, juicy, fragrant, sweet delight. The juice dribbled and ran down into my beard. Mmmmmm

I almost wrote "explodes in your mouth" - oh, well, I did write it anyway.

Nectarines have always been my favourite. While I love peaches, they simply can't hold a candle to the glory of their smooth skinned relative, the nectarine. Coming from Washington State, we always had fresh, ripe stone fruit (peaches, apricots, nectarines) in late summer.

There's a second one enticing me with it's odor sitting on my desk right now....

It's almost time! I'm hoping that by the time I get to Vancouver in 2.5 weeks the peaches are finally ready....

So you're into bear-fruit as opposed to twink fruit? ;-)

That peach you bit into is probably the cream of the Washington crop, as the food distribution networks seems to send the good stuff out of state (with a whole lot of justification about shipping durability) leaving the culls for the residents of the actual state.

I suppose it's good for tourism, you're always assured of eating better when travelling.

Nectarines
I think Nectarines are the BEST fruit (well, excluding pomegranites). Even with the fuzzyness and squishyness of peaches set aside... Nectarines have a sunny fresh taste, while peaches are mostly just way sweet. Peaches are good, yes. But Nectarines are sassy and firm... when you bite into a peach it basically turns to mush for you... a nectarine stands up to your teeth and with each bite retains its integrity as you devour it.

I've been experimenting with peaches, apricots and nectarines in smoothies. Yummy experiments.

There's a peach tree in the yard behind this building; in late summer, the smell is delicate but everywhere.
